本词典是参考英国新近出版的各种外来语词典和有关工具书编汇而成的。这部词典共收录英语词约六万二千条，其中正文约五万六千五百条，附录约五千五百条。它是学习、阅读和翻译英语的一部常用工具书。本词典除了注意选取政治、经济、社会、军事、通讯、科技等方面的词条以外，还选编了体育、音乐戏剧、医药卫生、电影电视以及服饰发型等等方面的常用英语。是一部综合性的英语语词典。
