本书为浙江省文物考古研究所编著的《反山》发掘报告的英文版。反山位于良渚古城城内莫角山宫殿的西北部，姜家山的北面，是一座人工堆筑的长方形土墩。1986年，浙江省文物考古研究所对其进行了发掘，在土墩上发现11座良渚文化时期的大型墓葬，共出土陶、石、玉、象牙、嵌玉漆器等1200余组。这是浙江省考古工作者首次发掘到随葬有玉器而且还是许多高等级玉器的良渚文化大型墓葬。从一发现开始，到现在良渚古城的发现与研究，反山墓地的发现为从整体上考察良渚文化的社会分化与分工、对认识良渚古城的城内布局、对良渚玉器的解读等，都提供了一批非常重要的资料。
